Being finance junkies, we
thought a forum where women could talk about money in a comfortable, relaxed
environment - with a glass of wine - was a great way to spend an evening. So in
September 2006 we held our first event, on futures trading no less, with 30
women in attendance. It was fun, everyone was inspired, we all learned
something new.
Word about these new,
affordable women-only finance events quickly spread through word of mouth and
publicity and suddenly we on the GLAM committee were emailing each other with
things like ‘there are 150 women are on the list!' and '45 people are coming to
the next event' etc. How times have changed! Today, we have almost 1,800 on our
database and the number grows every day. We now get on average 80 people coming
to our events - and oh how we love to see you there! We love it when you tell
us that you learned something, that you are going to take on board some advice
that you heard at GLAM, that next time you are bringing your mother / sister /
girlfriend cause they need to learn more about taking care of their finances
too.
Cause that's what we want
to do - provide access to the information so you can make informed decisions
about your finances.
We think it's important
that you know that none of the GLAM committee members -are financial planners
or advisors. We are women who have an interest in finance who knew that many of
our friends and family were overwhelmed by the vast amount of financial
information out there. Our events are designed to break through the information
barrier and introduce you to a range of finance information. Help you learn
more about money - earning, managing, saving and growing it!
Alysia Hamilton - GLAMorous Executive Officer (GEO)
Alysia's inspiration for GLAM came from listening to Margaret Lomas, an investor, author and now speaker on the Australian property market. With a Masters in Management and global property experience (Queensland and Tennessee, USA real estate licenses), Alysia's passion is twofold: first to radiate sunshine in her daily interactions and secondly to inspire women to become financially free. Alysia is a happy shareholder in companies listed on the NYSE and the ASX (thanks to a GLAM connection!) and is building her property portfolio in America. Alysia is working on her Financial Diploma so she can help women gain an even greater knowledge of all things financial, continuing to build GLAM and being a ‘work in progress' investor.
Corinna Reeves - GLAMorous Technology Officer
Corinna is taking GLAM into the digital age! With more than 17 years in the IT industry, project management and HR Consulting, Corinna is introducing Digital Marketing and Digital Technology to grow GLAM to the next level. Corinna discovered GLAM through her own thirst for financial knowledge and came on board as one of the founding committee members. Now, after just three years, Corinna has control of her own finances and, through GLAM, is able to help other woman achieve the same.
Corinna's passion is to continue to learn and share the development of self-leadership by combining Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and Natural Horsemanship. Using simple exercises with horses this provides individuals the opportunity to recognise their self-leadership style and how to develop better communication and authentic leadership skills.
Kathy Ran - GLAMorous Financial Officer
Without Kathy, the bills don't get paid and the GLAM account isn't reconciled. As GLAM's Financial Officer, Kathy is responsible for keeping GLAM's accounts in the black.
After a marriage break up that left her with a six-figure debt, Kathy - a mother of two - quickly learned about risk and cashflow management. When she discovered ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad' by Robert Kiyosaki she had a ‘aha' moment and started absorbing investment, motivational and mindset books and seminars. At the same time she discovered GLAM and now is firmly committed to financial education (building on her Business Degree) and empowerment for everyone, especially women.
Kathy has an investment property portfolio and is keen to expand her real estate holdings in the USA. She also has a share portfolio and hopes to become a full-time trader in commodities, foreign exchange and share options.
